FALL FOOTBALL 2020
Saint Michael Catholic launched its fall season on September 18, 2020 and played the last fall season game on November 21, 2020. We believe in our young men, and we believe in providing them opportunities. If football is their purpose, so be it. We build character, faith, grades and work ethic through our commitment and love for the sport that has built our State Championship Warrior family. We followed protocols, we exercised discipline and awareness, and praise God had ZERO virus issues. Our young men earned our first ever victory against a VISAA Division 1 opponent and continued their epic accomplishment of shutting out opponents at home. Over 2 years and 7 home games, our Warrior defense has pitched 6 shutouts.

The 10 game Fall schedule will be filled out and complete by February 2021 as we discern who and where the best opportunities are for our young men and our program.
SMHS is unique in that we offer Strength and Conditioning PE courses to our student body. We ask all of our student athletes playing football to register for this course. The course allows the young men to get their lifts in year-round, including during the season.
WATCH THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME-WINNING PLAY!
In the 2019 State Championship game against perennial power house Roanoke Catholic, late in the fourth quarter with 15 seconds left in the game, on 4th down and trailing by 3 points on our own 5 yard line, we sent our field goal team onto the field to tie the game and take us to overtime. Our field goal kicker, All-State Kicker Colton Bubar had made a 43 yard field goal to end the first half earlier in the game. But something was wrong. Something just felt terribly off. The energy leaving the huddle after the time out was awful. So I called a second straight time out and asked my Warriors, “What? What’s wrong?” VISAA Player of the Year, First Team All-state everything quarterback Jalen Smith, a man of few words said, “Coach, let’s win the game.” I stared at eyes, all of them. 30-40 seconds went by, and I said, “You know what, I trust you, go win the game.” The huddle erupted with insane energy. Coach Charles called the play, I grabbed Jalen as he was heading out and I told him, “I believe in you, you were made for this moment, go win the game.” He smiled at me, said absolutely nothing and just winked. The rest is history!
